Another good lesson from Jennie that brought the best comments from the class. It is such a great concept that reminds me of the term 'Sunday School' actually having to do with education of the best sort.
As we all know, the study of Isaiah is at times difficult. Why do we do it...?
There are many others sections of scripture that are better and easier understood. I suppose the best reason to give time and attention to Isaiah is because of what Eric said in class. The Lord himself commanded that we do.
1 And now, behold, I say unto you, that ye ought to asearch these things. Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently; for great are the words of bIsaiah.*
Some other benefits are stated by fellow class members...
Dave C.: to delight in the covenants
Jennie: to liken the scripture unto ourselves
Jed S: to understand the gathering of the Saints
Mike H: to understand the gathering of Israel
George B: to know the judgements of God
Thomas M: to further understand that we are saved by grace and works, two sides of the same coin.
Thanks to Jennie and our class for this time of learning and growing. We hope you enjoy... :)

Believe
"It is cbetter that one man should perish than that a nation should dwindle and perish in dunbelief."
This is what the Spirit told Nephi regarding the records of scripture and genealogy that Laban refused to rightfully give the family of Lehi.
Laban did perish, as we know. Nephi and those who came after him went to amazing lengths so that we could have access to the Book of Mormon. And to what end...? So that we will believe in Jesus Christ and his atonement on our behalf, which then gives us the hope and motivation to continue the good efforts of being again with our dearest Heavenly Father.
We know and appreciate how the Book of Mormon has increased our love of the Bible..and that with these two combined books of scripture we are really blessed.
Bishop Henricksen of our Weatherly Ward gave us a list of 9 suggestions that we can use as we try and maintain or increase our level of scripture study.
I really appreciated it and am excited to put it on the blog, especially since I've already lost the slip of paper that the Bishop gave the class...however, I can easily access the blog to get the study suggestions...thank you to Joy for NOT losing her paper and sharing it with me. Love you..!
Nine Suggested Methods of Scripture Study
and in no particular order...mix it up, get a little crazy...whoo hoo..:)
1. The 'I Nephi' or 'In the Beginning' Method: which essentially is what we all have done at some point...Starting at the beginning of the scripture, and pushing on through a little bit every day.
2. The '3 Pages' Method: study 3 pages every day
3. The '3 Chapters' Method: study 3 chapters every day
4. The 'Ten Minutes" Method: choose ten minutes, or maybe another set amount of time that you know will be successful for your life demands.
5. The 'Scripture Mastery' Method: There are 100 scriptures that have been set apart for our benefit in having a quick mental reference. Take three or four days to learn each one and build upon your memory. Here is the link for the list: http://seminary.lds.org/mastery/
6. The 'Gosple Doctrine' Method: Study the Sunday School lesson before and if you're really cool, read it again when you get home for further understanding.
7. The 'Bible Dictonary' Method: Scan the dictionary for items of interest and read about it. This has been on of my favorites and I have appreciated the things I have learned that I might not have otherwise taken time to understand.
8. The 'Topical Guide' Method: much the same as above with the Dictionary study.
9. The Study Guide' Method: If you want to study another book of scripture other than what we are learning for the year, a great way to go about it is with the available study guide to keep your study on track and offer insights.
Also, keep in mind all of the awesome media we have to enrich our lives. Don't turn off the TV, just change the channel for a moment every day..;)
BYU TV, LDS.org, Mormon Channel.
We are what we eat, so let's feast upon the word of the Lord, and BELIEVE.
